Abirapro contains Abiraterone acetate, a medicine used to treat prostate cancer. It is usually given along with another drug called prednisone.

Mechanism 

• Prostate cancer cells need male hormone (androgen/testosterone) to grow.

• Abiraterone blocks an enzyme called CYP17, which is important for making androgens in the body.

• By lowering androgen levels, it slows down or stops the growth of prostate cancer cells.

  Uses

  • Treatment of advanced or metastatic prostate cancer (when cancer has spread).

  • Often used when other treatments, like surgery or hormone injections, are not enough.

    Adverse Effects 

    Common side effects:

    • High blood pressure

    • Low potassium levels (weakness, muscle cramps)

    • Fluid retention (swelling in legs or feet)

    • Liver function changes

    • Tiredness

    • Joint pain

    • Hot flashes
