Tavin-EM – Description

Tavin-EM is a combination HIV medicine. It contains two drugs in one tablet:

• Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)

• Emtricitabine (FTC)

It is often used together with other HIV medicines as part of treatment.

Mechanism 

• Both Tenofovir and Emtricitabine block an enzyme called reverse transcriptase, which HIV needs to make copies of itself.

• By blocking this enzyme, the virus cannot multiply.

• This lowers the HIV level in the blood and helps the immune system get stronger.

  Uses

  • Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents (always in combination with other HIV medicines).

  • Sometimes used for HIV prevention (PrEP – Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) in people at high risk of infection, as advised by a doctor.

    Adverse Effects 

    Common side effects:

    • Headache

    • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea

    • Tiredness

    • Skin rash
