Alafevir is an HIV medicine. It contains Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), which is a newer and safer form of Tenofovir. It is often used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines.
Mechanism
-
HIV needs an enzyme called reverse transcriptase to multiply.
-
Alafevir (TAF) blocks this enzyme.
-
This stops the virus from making new copies of itself.
-
As a result, the amount of HIV in the blood goes down, and the immune system becomes stronger.
Uses
-
Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents (always combined with other HIV medicines).
-
Sometimes used for chronic hepatitis B infection (if prescribed by doctor).
