Abamune is a combination HIV medicine.
It contains two drugs in one tablet:
-
Abacavir (ABC)
-
Lamivudine (3TC)
It is usually taken with another HIV medicine (like an integrase inhibitor or protease inhibitor) as part of a complete treatment regimen.
Mechanism
-
Both Abacavir and Lamivudine block the HIV enzyme reverse transcriptase, which the virus needs to make copies of itself.
-
By blocking this enzyme, the virus cannot multiply.
-
This lowers the HIV level in the blood and helps strengthen the immune system.
Uses
