Abirapro contains Abiraterone acetate, a medicine used to treat prostate cancer. It is usually given along with another drug called prednisone.
Mechanism
-
Prostate cancer cells need male hormone (androgen/testosterone) to grow.
-
Abiraterone blocks an enzyme called CYP17, which is important for making androgens in the body.
-
By lowering androgen levels, it slows down or stops the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Uses
-
Treatment of advanced or metastatic prostate cancer (when cancer has spread).
-
Often used when other treatments, like surgery or hormone injections, are not enough.
