Axishil contains Axitinib, which is a type of anti-cancer medicine. It is a targeted therapy used mainly for kidney cancer. Unlike normal chemotherapy, it blocks specific proteins that help cancer cells grow new blood vessels.

Mechanism 

• Cancer cells need blood supply to grow.

• Axitinib blocks a group of proteins called VEGF receptors (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptors).

• By blocking these receptors, Axitinib stops the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) that feed the tumor.

• This slows down or stops the growth of cancer cells.

  Uses

  • Mainly used to treat advanced kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma).

  • Sometimes used when other treatments did not work.

    Adverse Effects (Side effects)

    Common side effects include:

    • High blood pressure

    • Tiredness and weakness

    • Diarrhea or stomach upset

    • Loss of appetite and weight loss

    • Mouth sores

    • Nausea and vomiting

    • Hand-foot syndrome (redness, pain, or peeling skin on palms and soles)
