Cetcon is an anti-allergy medicine. It usually contains cetirizine or levocetirizine as the main ingredient. In some combinations (like Cetcon-MK), it also has montelukast. It is commonly prescribed to relieve symptoms of allergies such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, skin rashes, and itching.
Mechanism of Action
-
Cetirizine / Levocetirizine: These are antihistamines. They block the action of histamine, a natural chemical in the body that causes allergy symptoms.
-
Montelukast (if present in combination): Blocks leukotrienes, substances that cause swelling and tightening of airways in allergic conditions and asthma.
Uses
Cetcon is used for:
-
Seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis (sneezing, nasal congestion, watery discharge)
-
Urticaria (hives) and skin allergies causing itching or rash
-
Asthma-related allergies (when combined with montelukast)
-
Relief from eye and throat irritation caused by allergens
Adverse Effects
Most people tolerate it well, but possible side effects include:

Sleepiness or drowsiness (more with cetirizine, less with levocetirizine)
