Colozo contains linaclotide, a medicine used to treat certain bowel conditions. It is a synthetic peptide that acts locally in the gut and is prescribed for patients with chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C).
Mechanism of Action
-
Linaclotide works by binding to guanylate cyclase-C receptors on the intestinal lining.
-
This increases levels of cyclic GMP (cGMP), which stimulates secretion of chloride and water into the intestines.
-
The result is softer stools, easier bowel movements, and reduced abdominal pain by calming overactive pain signals in the gut.
