Fosup Injection contains Fosaprepitant, a prodrug of aprepitant, which is an antiemetic medication. It is administered intravenously and is primarily used in combination with other antiemetic agents to prevent both acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy treatments, including those involving highly emetogenic agents like cisplatin. Fosaprepitant is converted into its active form, aprepitant, shortly after administration, exerting its therapeutic effects.

Mechanism of Action

Fosaprepitant functions as a neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist. Upon conversion to aprepitant, it selectively binds to NK1 receptors in the brain, inhibiting the action of substance P, a neuropeptide involved in the emetic (vomiting) reflex. By blocking these receptors, Fosaprepitant effectively reduces the incidence and severity of nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy.

Uses

Fosup Injection is indicated for:

  • Prevention of acute nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of highly emetogenic chemotherapy.

  • Prevention of delayed nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of moderately emetogenic chemotherapy.

    • Headache
