Lavir contains Lamivudine, which is an antiviral medicine. It belongs to a group of drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). It is mainly used in the treatment of HIV infection and chronic hepatitis B infection.
Mechanism
Lamivudine works by blocking an enzyme called reverse transcriptase, which is necessary for the virus (HIV or hepatitis B virus) to make copies of itself. By stopping this process, it reduces the amount of virus in the body and helps the immune system to work better.
