Prempro is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medicine.
-
It contains conjugated estrogens (female hormone) + medroxyprogesterone acetate (a progestin).
-
It is mainly used in women after menopause.
Mechanism
-
Estrogen part replaces the natural estrogen that decreases after menopause. This helps reduce hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and protects bones.
-
Progestin part protects the lining of the uterus from abnormal thickening (which can happen if estrogen is used alone and may lead to cancer).
Uses
-
Relief of menopausal symptoms (hot flashes, sweating, mood swings).
-
Treatment of vaginal dryness, itching, and discomfort due to low estrogen.
-
Prevention of osteoporosis (bone loss) in postmenopausal women.
