Prempro is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medicine.

It contains conjugated estrogens (female hormone) + medroxyprogesterone acetate (a progestin).

It is mainly used in women after menopause.

Mechanism 

• Estrogen part replaces the natural estrogen that decreases after menopause. This helps reduce hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and protects bones.

• Progestin part protects the lining of the uterus from abnormal thickening (which can happen if estrogen is used alone and may lead to cancer).

  Uses

  • Relief of menopausal symptoms (hot flashes, sweating, mood swings).

  • Treatment of vaginal dryness, itching, and discomfort due to low estrogen.

  • Prevention of osteoporosis (bone loss) in postmenopausal women.

    Adverse Effects 

    Common:

    • Headache

    • Breast tenderness or pain

    • Bloating, stomach upset

    • Nausea

    • Vaginal bleeding or spotting
