Perjeta contains Pertuzumab, which is a targeted cancer medicine. It is a type of monoclonal antibody that works against HER2-positive breast cancer.

Mechanism
Pertuzumab attaches to the HER2 protein on cancer cells. HER2 helps some breast cancers grow rapidly. By blocking HER2, Perjeta prevents cancer cells from growing and spreading. It also helps the immune system attack the cancer cells.

Uses

• HER2-positive breast cancer (early-stage or metastatic)

• Usually given in combination with Trastuzumab (Herceptin) and chemotherapy for better results

Adverse Effects
Common side effects:

• Hair loss

• Nausea, vomiting

• Fatigue, weakness
