Prolavir-LR is a combination HIV medicine.
It contains three drugs in one tablet:
-
Lopinavir (LPV) – a protease inhibitor
-
Ritonavir (RTV) – boosts the effect of Lopinavir
-
Lamivudine (3TC) – a reverse transcriptase inhibitor
It is used as part of a complete HIV treatment plan.
Mechanism
-
Lopinavir: Blocks the HIV enzyme protease, which the virus needs to make new infectious copies.
-
Ritonavir: Slows the breakdown of Lopinavir in the body, so it works better.
