SoviHep 400 mg contains Sofosbuvir, an antiviral medication used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It works by inhibiting viral replication, helping to reduce viral load and achieve a sustained virologic response (SVR), which is considered a cure.
Mechanism of action:
Sofosbuvir is a nucleotide analog inhibitor of HCV NS5B polymerase, an enzyme the virus needs to replicate its RNA. By blocking this enzyme, SoviHep prevents the virus from multiplying, allowing the immune system to clear the infection.
Uses:
-
Chronic hepatitis C infection (all genotypes, often used in combination with other antivirals)
-
Helps reduce liver inflammation, prevent liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer
-
Part of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy for HCV
Adverse effects:
Common side effects include fatigue, headache, nausea, insomnia, and mild dizziness. Rare but serious effects may include severe allergic reactions or liver problems, particularly in patients with advanced liver disease.
