Tacroz Forte contains Tacrolimus, an immunosuppressant medicine used to prevent organ transplant rejection and to treat certain autoimmune conditions. It helps reduce the immune system’s activity to prevent it from attacking transplanted organs or causing inflammation.
Mechanism of action:
Tacrolimus works by inhibiting calcineurin, an enzyme that activates T-lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell). By suppressing these immune cells, Tacroz Forte reduces the immune response, preventing organ rejection or excessive inflammation.
Uses:
-
Prevention of organ transplant rejection (kidney, liver, heart)
-
Autoimmune diseases in certain cases
-
Topical forms are used for eczema or inflammatory skin conditions (note: Tacroz Forte is oral/tablet form)
Adverse effects:
Common side effects include tremors, headache, nausea, diarrhea, high blood pressure, and increased susceptibility to infections. Long-term use may affect kidney or liver function, and rarely, it can increase the risk of certain cancers.
