Tasigna contains Nilotinib, which is a targeted cancer medicine. It belongs to the group of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). It is mainly used for certain types of blood cancer.

Mechanism
Nilotinib blocks an abnormal protein called BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase. This protein is made by the Philadelphia chromosome mutation and causes white blood cells to grow uncontrollably. By blocking it, Tasigna helps control cancer cell growth.

Uses

• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in adults and children with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) mutation

• Used when patients cannot tolerate or do not respond to other medicines like imatinib

Adverse Effects
Common side effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation

• Rash, itching

• Tiredness, weakness

• Muscle or joint pain

• Hair loss
