Tavin-EM – Description
Tavin-EM is a combination HIV medicine. It contains two drugs in one tablet:
-
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)
-
Emtricitabine (FTC)
It is often used together with other HIV medicines as part of treatment.
Mechanism
-
Both Tenofovir and Emtricitabine block an enzyme called reverse transcriptase, which HIV needs to make copies of itself.
-
By blocking this enzyme, the virus cannot multiply.
-
This lowers the HIV level in the blood and helps the immune system get stronger.
Uses
-
Treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents (always in combination with other HIV medicines).
-
Sometimes used for HIV prevention (PrEP – Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) in people at high risk of infection, as advised by a doctor.
