Viraday is a combination medicine used for HIV infection. It contains three antiviral drugs:
-
Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)
-
Emtricitabine (FTC)
-
Efavirenz (EFV)
It is usually taken as a single daily tablet.
Mechanism
-
Tenofovir and Emtricitabine are nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). They block the enzyme reverse transcriptase, which HIV needs to make new copies of itself.
-
Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It also blocks reverse transcriptase but in a different way.
Together, they reduce the amount of virus in the blood and improve the immune system.
Uses
-
Treatment of HIV-1 infection (not a cure, but helps control HIV, improve immunity, and reduce complications).
Adverse Effects
Common side effects:-
Dizziness, headache, trouble sleeping, strange dreams (mainly due to Efavirenz)
