Zomacton contains Somatropin, a synthetic form of human growth hormone (HGH). It is used to treat growth hormone deficiency in children and adults, helping to promote growth, increase height in children, and improve metabolism and body composition in adults with hormone deficiency.

Mechanism of action:
Somatropin works by mimicking the natural growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland. It stimulates the liver and other tissues to produce insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which promotes growth of bones and tissues, increases protein synthesis, and supports normal metabolism of fats and carbohydrates.

Uses:

• Growth hormone deficiency in children (short stature)

• Growth hormone deficiency in adults (reduced muscle mass, increased fat, poor energy)

• Certain conditions like Turner syndrome, chronic kidney disease, or Prader-Willi syndrome in children to promote growth

• To improve body composition and bone density in adults with deficiency

Adverse effects:
Common side effects include injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling), headache, muscle pain, joint stiffness, and swelling due to fluid retention. Rare but serious side effects can include high blood sugar, increased intracranial pressure, slipped capital femoral epiphysis in children, and severe allergic reactions.
